The result of a union ballot potentially paving the way for the first North Sea strikes in a generation is due out later today.
Almost half the workforce on Royal Dutch Shell's Brent oilfield, located north-east of the Shetland Islands, could walk out following a ballot of around 200 employees by trade unions Unite and RMT.
