From Barron's:
Tesla’s on Fire and Not in a Good Way
As if yesterday’s earnings-related selloff wasn’t bad enough, Tesla’s (TSLA) shares are plunging once again. And this time it has nothing to do with its profit. There are a couple gaps on the chart, ~100 and ~63 that the stock may be headed for, I had intended to post this yesterday but reality intruded, sorry.
Reports are coming in about a third fire in one Tesla’s Model S sedans, causing Tesla’s shares to plunge 6.5% to $141.26 at 10:51 a.m. Reuters has the details:
The Tesla Motors Club website contains pictures and a story about another fire involving a Model S on Wednesday afternoon that a company spokeswoman confirmed. The accident occurred in Smyrna, Tennessee, where Nissan Motor Co (NSANY) makes the Leaf electric car.Tesla’s shares have now dropped 23% during the past month of trading, lagging Ford’s (F) 0.8% decline, General Motors (GM) 3.4% gain and Toyota (TM) 1.7% rise.Tesla’s shares are now 18% below their 50-day moving average.
Tesla said it has been in touch with the driver, who was not injured. The vehicle is registered to Juris Shibayama of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, according to the highway patrol. It was unclear if the owner was operating the vehicle…
The company said the fire was the result of an accident and was not a spontaneous event
