Solar: Polysilicon Price Trend ("through the roof" but slowing)

In Monday's "Solar: Top 10 Polysilicon Manufacturers" I mentioned that our source, Bernreuter Research, knows as much as anybody outside of China regarding the commercial details of solar, and probably inside China as well. One of the things they do is track polysilicon prices.

From Bernreuter, Wednesday July 7:

POLYSILICON PRICE TREND
What is driving the roller-coaster ride of the polysilicon price?

The polysilicon price has seen many ups and downs over the last few decades. Which factors cause this volatility? What is the current spot price today? How good is the information from various price data providers? What is the spot price forecast for 2021? How has the polysilicon price developed since 1981? Here, you will find the answers to all these questions as well as charts that illustrate the price trend.

Last update: July 7, 2021

As PV InfoLink has stopped tracking multi-grade polysilicon prices and EnergyTrend has finally caught up on its lag behind other price indices, Bernreuter Research has returned to EnergyTrend as its source of raw data. We calculate the global spot price average from EnergyTrend’s price data on multi and mono grade in China and its average price outside China. The calculation is now based on a market share of 95% for mono grade and an 80-20 split between polysilicon produced in China and material supplied by non-Chinese manufacturers.
