"France investigates secret restaurants for Paris elite"

Chicago had one of these, the restaurant was owned by one of the Aldermen.*

Champagne, lobster and no masks: That’s what a French TV documentary says is on the menu at one of multiple high-end “clandestine restaurants” catering to the Paris elite, in violation of nationwide pandemic restrictions.

What’s even more shocking to the newly confined French public — and exhausted medical staff — is that one organizer claimed government ministers are among those who attend.

French authorities are investigating the accusations and government members scrambled to insist they’re behaving properly.

Anti-capitalist activists and critics of President Emmanuel Macron aren’t convinced and plan a protest Tuesday — advertised on social networks under the banner “Let’s Eat the Rich” — at one of the alleged secret venues,

The Paris prosecutor’s office said Monday that an investigation was opened Sunday into possible charges of endangerment and undeclared labor and to identify the organizers and participants of the alleged gatherings.

A documentary that aired on French network M6 over the weekend included a man saying that he had eaten in two or three clandestine restaurants “with a certain number of ministers.”....

Chicago Alderman’s Restaurant Caught Defying Indoor Dining Ban: ‘Someone Ratted Us Out,’ Employee Says

Despite state and city mandates against dining indoors, the Ann Sather restaurant owned by Ald. Tom Tunney was seating people indoors through Sunday.

Despite state and city mandates against dining indoors, a popular Lakeview restaurant owned by a veteran Chicago alderman was letting people dine indoors as recently as Sunday.

Ann Sather restaurant, located at 909 W. Belmont Ave. and owned by 44th Ward Ald. Tom Tunney, was seating people through Sunday, despite a mandate that banned indoor dining starting Oct. 30 from Gov. JB Pritzker.

The story was first reported by blog Second City Cop, which showed photos of someone dining inside the restaurant Thursday. Other customers were seen dining indoors, too.

A reporter visiting the restaurant Monday was told by an employee the restaurant stopped seating diners indoors Sunday.

“That ended yesterday. We were seating some people, but somebody ratted us out,” the employee said....

One of the early reports said the dining was actually taking place in a room off to the side accessible by an old-timey speakeasy door, complete with sliding peephole which would comport well with the demi-mobster "somebody ratted us out” lingo.
