The writer's tone seems to fall somewhere on the spectrum between bemused and exasperated.

You cannot turn anywhere without seeing some connection to AI. No matter how trivial the application, these stories inevitably suggest some connection with (or benefit due to) AI. While some of these connections are legitimate and substantive, many are what marketers call “a reach” or “borrowed interest” to bask in some of the AI glow.
There is another thing which AI has spawned: a legion of experts who are assessing AI’s electrical and cooling needs. These assessments come from think tanks, government agencies, academics, AI vendors, power and cooling system suppliers, and consultants—just about anyone who has something to say and wants to be perceived as relevant to the AI story in some way. They casually predict these electrical and cooling needs years into the future as seen in the example of Figure 1, projecting ahead a few years and sometimes even a decade or more....
