The story of the Hong Kong gent doing renovations on his new London pad got me thinking about a library upgrade.
So, running completely counter to the theme of a couple earlier posts* let's assume that the party doesn't end, and go upmarket.
From the Robb Report:
Read the Room: 10 Homes With Magnificent Libraries for Hitting the Books During Quarantine
When it comes to these luxe residences, you can pretty safely judge a book by its cover.
Why settle for a home office when you can have a whole library? That the
thinking behind many a for-sale mansions anyway, which take reading
seriously enough to offer huge rooms with shelves upon shelves for
books. The ideal space to curl up with your favorite novel, or to get
some work done while at home, these libraries offer perhaps the most
important residential amenity right now: tranquility (and a little
literary escape). Plus, since you own this particular library, you won’t
have to worry about returning any books you check out. Below, 10
stunning in-home libraries that you can buy right now.
12 East 69th, New York — $79 Million
The most expensive townhouse in New York City, 12 East 69th Street even cracked Robb Report‘s “Most Expensive Homes”
list for 2019. No small wonder, as the Upper East Side mansion’s
double-height library alone is five times the size of most NYC
apartments. Famed architect William Bosworth designed the
20,000-square-foot home, which has five floors, in 1883—and it still
maintains much of its historic flair. If you’re burnt out on reading,
the second floor of the library connects to the second floor of the
adjacent double-height movie theater. A home office, meanwhile, is
accessible via the library’s ground floor.
Beverly House, California — $125 Million
The library at the Beverly House
in—you guessed it—Beverly Hills, is a true sanctuary for bibliophiles.
With two stories worth of space, it’s easy to get lost in the space’s
many shelves—hand-carved woodwork adorns the balconies and walls. You’ll
also have the cachet of saying you live where The Godfather
was filmed. One of the movie’s most infamous scenes—when Jack Woltz
wakes up to find a severed horse head beside him in bed—was allegedly
shot on the premises, though the former owner contests this claim.
In other words, if you want to live in a home with one of the most
spectacular libraries on the market, better make them an offer they
can’t refuse....

And finally, if you really want to up your information storage and retrieval game there's the Klementinum in Prague:
