From Popular Mechanics, October 14:
The system is designed to eject the battery away from the vehicle following any signs of thermal runaway—fancy science speak for spontaneous combustion.
A recent clip from a Chinese automotive safety symposium has been circulating online, demonstrating what looks to be a battery ejection system. The footage shows an SUV firing a battery module from one of two bays located underneath the vehicle. While we’re always interested in celebrating automotive innovation, the video does raise one question: Is this a good idea?
Well, that answer is likely still to come. But, at the very least, there is a reason for the dramatic tech—it’s designed to eject the battery from the vehicle in the event of a fire.
The ballistic ejection system appearing in the video—at the start of which you can see “Power Battery Launch Technology Demonstration and Exchange Meeting” on the back wall— seems to have been designed by Joyson Electronics, but a recent post from Yicai (a subsidiary of Shanghai Media Group) on X states that Joyson denied any claims of developing such a technology. (Popular Mechanics could not independently verify the authenticity of the clip or its manufacturer.)....

I was a bit disappointed in the video. I had expected one of James Bond's ejector seats, possibly the one from Goldfinger:
Or maybe the fellow whose co-workers got him a ride in a French Dassault fighter as a retirement gift:
