oes it seem like it’s difficult to keep track of all the news in the plant-based space?

From plant-based burgers to chick’n nuggets, companies have launched a variety of new products in recent months and acquired brands to get prime products in the alternative protein space. Investors have also poured more than $16 billion into U.S. plant-based and cell-based meat companies in the past 10 years — $13 billion of it in 2017 and 2018.

The numbers show that trend continuing. Growth of plant-based protein and meat alternatives is projected to increase from $4.6 billion in 2018 to a whopping $85 billion in 2030, according to investment firm UBS.

With consumers pushing for both healthier and more sustainable diets, the space is primed for continued growth. A recent study from DuPont Nutrition & Health found that 52% of U.S. consumers are eating more plant-based foods and they believe it makes them feel healthier.

    Aqua Cultured Foods received $2.1M in an oversubscribed pre-seed round

    Investors in this round include Supply Change Capital, Aera VC, Sustainable Food Ventures, Hanfield Venture Partners, Lifely VC, Conscience VC, Kingfisher Capital, Hyde Park Angels and Gonzalo Ramirez Martiarena. The funds will be used to accelerate the fermented seafood analog company's R&D.

    The Very Good Food Company launches Butcher's Select Mmm...Meatballs and Very Good Butchers Steak

    The meatballs won the NEXTY award for Best New Frozen Product. The steak, made with shiitake mushroom and beets, is a whole cut product.

Silva Sausage and Mission Barns enter partnership for plant-based sausage with cultivated fat

The companies completed a scaled-up run of Mission Chorizo Sausage, the product of this partnership, as part of the announcement. No target launch date is set yet. Read more ➔
