I would not want to be hit by a water cannon. They are referred to as a "less-than-lethal" crowd control measure, not "non-lethal"
And with temperatures around the freezing point. they will leave you miserable.
On the other hand I wouldn't be trying to break through barricades into another country
For some reason Americans don't use water cannons while in Europe, countries will use them pretty much any time they want people to move along Here's The Netherlands last week:
