Insurance: Despite Wild Weekend, U.S. Tornado Count Still Well Below Average

The past three years have had the lowest tornado counts in the recorded history which dates back to the founding of the Severe Weather Warning Center — forerunner of the National Severe Storms Center, in 1951.
 

Thanks in part to record low counts in the first quarter, 2015 was shaping up to continue the trend lower, until the last couple weekends.
