Drinks manufacturers have been hit by a raft of cost increases, from the price of wheat – which is used to make many types of gin – to glass bottles, energy, transportation and wages

The price of gin is set to go “flying up”, with some popular brands likely to introduce increases of several pounds a bottle as a result of the war in Ukraine, distillers have claimed.

Wheat and other cereal prices, which were already rising prior to Russia’s invasion have soared since the outbreak of the conflict.

Ian McCulloch, managing director at Surrey-based brand Silent Pool Gin, described the situation as “horrific”.

He said: “It’s everything – the cost of glass, [bottle] stoppers, anti-tamper capsules.”....
