Home & Garden: "Feeling down? Why painting your home like a prison cell could lift your mood"

From The Telegraph via Yahoo News, February 12:

Does today feel like the 556th day of winter? Has the year of February dragged on longer than you can bear? Then fear not, as the design world has a decor suggestion that could instantly boost your spirits – decorating your home like a prison. But before you start adding bars to your windows, let’s qualify what that actually means. In this instance, we’re talking about a very specific colour used in a very specific era: Baker-Miller Pink, the shade daubed on cell walls in the 1970s.

During the late 1960s, researcher Alexander Schauss (now head of the American Institute for Biosocial Research) looked at how pink affects both mind and body. “Schauss’s research showed that cells painted a specific shade of pink were shown to lower aggressive behaviour in as little as 15 minutes – a finding that later led to the shade known as Baker-Miller Pink, ‘drunk-tank pink’ or ‘cool-down pink’ being used in prisons around the world,” says Michael Rolland, colour expert and managing director at The Paint Shed.

He believes that the theory still stands today. “During winter, we’re spending far more time indoors, often with less natural light, which can make spaces feel flat and draining. At that point, your home really starts to affect how you feel, and using colours that lift your mood and ease anxiety and stress can make a noticeable difference. Colour isn’t just decorative – it influences how we feel.”....

I'm not sure Home & Garden is going to make it as a regular feature on the blog.

At least with our late twenty-teens pivot to fashion (budget cuts necessitated trolling for high-end sponsors) we had some interesting mashups:
