German Car Rental Company Names Head of Striking Rail Union "Employee of the Month"

German car rental company Sixt SE on Thursday named Claus Weselsky, the head of the union behind Germany’s planned five-day rail driver’s strike, its employee of the month in an announcement on its website.

In a cheeky move, German car rental company Sixt on Thursday named Claus Weselsky, the head of the union behind the rail driver’s strike, its employee of the month.

The planned five-day strike , which threatens to be the longest stoppage in the history of state rail operator Deutsche Bahn,  has left millions of travelers and commuters scrambling for alternative ways to get around. It’s also caused an uproar among politicians, upending plans to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the collapse of the Berlin Wall this weekend.

Sixt couldn’t quantify how much the walk-out would affect business, though it obviously expects Mr. Weselsky’s call for a strike to boost rentals. Rival Hertz said it also expects a short-term surge in demand, and couldn’t rule out running out of available vehicles in some locations....MORE
