That makes three straits in six weeks: Hormuz, Malacca and now Gibralter.
Back in July 2021, recounting all the chokepoints China was camped-out at, we exited a post with the note:
I suppose somebody should keep an eye on Morocco to note if the Chinese set up camp on the Strait of Gibraltar.
That post was followed three years later with: "Chinese EV battery makers are building huge factories in Morocco to cash in on U.S. electric vehicle subsidies" (and China is now camped at most of the world's chokepoints)
I say, isn't Morocco on the Strait of Gibralter?*
And today's headline story, from Rabat's own, Hespress, April 16:
Morocco and the United States signed a defense cooperation roadmap covering the period from 2026 to 2036 at the conclusion of an official working visit to Washington, according to a statement from Morocco’s armed forces.
The agreement was signed during the 14th session of the Morocco–U.S. Defense Consultative Committee. Acting on royal directives, Morocco’s minister delegate to the head of government in charge of national defense administration and the inspector general of the Royal Armed Forces, who also commands the southern zone, led a high-level delegation to the United States from April 14 to 16.
The Moroccan armed forces’ general staff said the visit represented a strategic milestone and included high-level meetings with U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, in the presence of Morocco’s ambassador to Washington, Youssef Amrani, and the U.S. ambassador to Rabat, Duke Buchan III. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in defense, defense industry cooperation and cybersecurity....
