The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) and GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly evaluate the potential international deployment of the BWRX-300 small modular reactor (SMR) technology.
Signed during a private ceremony at the World Utilities Congress in Abu Dhabi, the agreement builds on an MoU signed during COP28 in 2023. It forms part of ENEC’s broader ADVANCE programme, which aims to accelerate the assessment and potential integration of next-generation nuclear technologies.
Under the new MoU, both parties will collaborate on a development roadmap that includes site identification, licensing frameworks, investment planning, commercialisation strategies, and supply chain development.
His Excellency Mohamed Al Hammadi, Managing Director and CEO of ENEC, said the agreement supports ENEC’s ambition to expand its clean energy portfolio both in the UAE and globally....
