"Lebanon teeters on the edge as currency loses nearly 100 percent of its value"

Last year, a senior US official warned that the Lebanese will 'likely have to endure more pain' before the country is allowed to climb out of crisis

Lebanese protesters launched new attacks against commercial banks in the country’s capital on 16 February as the Lebanese currency hit a new record low of 80,000 liras per one US dollar on the black market.

At the start of February, the lira exchange rate stood at 60,000 per US dollar. However, the official exchange rate pegged by the central bank remains at only 15,000.

In the Badaro neighborhood of Beirut, protesters set fires outside the branches of BBAC bank, Fransabank, and Bank Audi, while several other banks had windows and doors broken by enraged depositors....
