Apparently The Washington Post Is About To Be Sued; Large-by-Large

That's the only reason I can think of that the Bezos blog would write the following:

WaPo, November 12, 2021, 12:28 EST:

The Washington Post corrects, removes parts of two stories regarding the Steele dossier

The Washington Post on Friday took the unusual step of correcting and removing large portions of two articles, published in March 2017 and February 2019, that had identified a Belarusan American businessman as a key source of the “Steele dossier,” a collection of largely unverified reports that claimed the Russian government had compromising information about then-candidate Donald Trump.

The newspaper’s executive editor, Sally Buzbee, said The Post could no longer stand by the accuracy of those elements of the story. It had identified businessman Sergei Millian as “Source D,” the unnamed figure who passed on the most salacious allegation in the dossier to its principal author, former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele.

The story’s headline was amended, sections identifying Millian as the source were removed, and an accompanying video summarizing the article was eliminated. An editor’s note explaining the changes was added. Other stories that made the same assertion were corrected as well....

....MUCH MORE

It is quite an in-depth mea culpa for a story which, if memory serves, garnered a Pulitzer Prize.

The reason I headlined with lawsuit talk was you just don't see major stories, four years old, get pulled down, re-written and then re-published. Except maybe to mitigate potential damages awarded at trial, damages that would be ticking higher with every second the original story remained up.

We'll have our own little stab at editorializing all this somewhere down the road but for now we continue to stand by our judgement from "January 13, 2017":

More Just as importantly, after reading the schlocky, amateur, borderline retarded "35 pages" thing, how could anyone ever again justify paying Orbis Business Intelligence actual money for anything they produce?

If some blogger can see through that worthless piece of garbage anybody could, including the pundits and journos who pushed that crap for five years. Which means they just decided to pervert the truth they knew and lie to their readers and clients.

It's enough to make you think they are nothing but a bunch lying perverts.

Or, as I'm sure they heard in third grade: "Ewwwww"....

Last seen in May 2021's "UPDATED—What The Hell Is This? The New York Times Gets Around To Calling Out The Steele Dossier....

Again, if memory serves, the NYT also picked up a Pulitzer or two for their writing.

And as a side note I can't help thinking each time I type the name that the pronunciation of Pulitzer is 'Pull-it-sir" not Pew-lit-zer.
