- President Donald Trump said on Aug. 25 that he was firing Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook.
- Trump cited suggestions by Federal Housing Finance Agency Bill Pulte that Cook had committed mortgage fraud.
- Cook, who denies wrongdoing, sued to block her removal by Trump, who has been critical of the Fed and its chairman, Jerome Powell, for not cutting interest rates.
A federal judge on Tuesday night blocked President Donald Trump from firing Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook as her lawsuit challenging her termination plays out.
Judge Jia Cobb’s order came nearly two weeks after Cook sued Trump to prevent him from removing her from the central bank.
“The public interest in Federal Reserve independence weighs in favor of Cook’s reinstatement,” Cobb wrote in her order.
A spokesperson for Cook’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, did not immediately reply to a request for comment on the ruling.
