Berkshire Hathaway shareholders are converging on Omaha, Nebraska, for the conglomerate’s annual meeting and the chance to hear from its legendary founder, Warren Buffett. Stephen Foley, the FT’s US investment correspondent, is there to capture the wit, wisdom and sometimes wackiness on display.
- 9.00am: Buffett plays this classic Saturday Night Live sketch, spoofing all the bad investment advice out there.
8.30am: Start of the introductory video. No footage allowed out of the arena (a condition of having celebrities take part), but I'll risk a prediction. It will include this snippet (always does) of Warren talking about Berkshire's ethics, from the time he had to step in as chairman of Salomon Brothers.
7.10am CDT, May 3: There's over an hour to the start of the formal proceedings, which will kick off as ever with a celebrity-stuffed video. Which means there's time to get in some early shopping. Many of the Berkshire businesses and investee companies are represented in the exhibition centre here, from See's Candies to Borsheims the jewellers to Coca-Cola to Heinz, which is selling souvenir ketchup.
