ICYMI: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had some extraordinary warnings for the Iranian people in an interview with Iran International the other day.
“Don’t pay your taxes because you’re not going to get anything back from the government.”
He also urged Iranians to prepare for serious fuel shortages this winter. “You should start stocking up on heating fuel. There’s going to be a big heating fuel shortage. In terms of gasoline, everyone should fill up their tanks now.”
Bessent warned that Iran’s economy could shrink by more than 25% over the coming year, a collapse he said would be worse than what the Soviet Union experienced after its breakup.
And the pressure is only beginning....
“We’ve been going for eight weeks, and I can tell you the next 8 weeks is going to get even more intense.” He described the sanctions as the most severe economic isolation the U.S. has ever imposed on a country. “The regime is afraid of the Iranian people.” Bessent said the U.S. wants to force the Islamic regime to negotiate, abandon nuclear weapons and stop funding its proxies. “The regime can end this at any time.” He says that the U.S. stands with the Iranian people, not their government.
