According to NOAA hurricane Helene made landfall at 11:10 p.m. EDT, Sept. 26, 2024. We will soon be entering day ten.
It took six days for the Department of Defense to issue this statement:
At the request of FEMA, the Secretary of Defense has authorized the movement of up to 1,000 active-duty Soldiers to support the delivery of food, water, and other critical aid "over the last mile to the point of need" to communities impacted by Hurricane Helene....
That's just the statement. The soldiers weren't moving for another 24 hours and weren't in a position to do much of anything for another 24 hours.
