Trade: China Echoes U.S.' "Substantial Progress", Communiqués On May 12 (CET)

US-China agree to ‘trade consultation mechanism’, conduct further talks, He Lifeng says
He pledged that China is ready to work with the US to manage differences and make the ‘pie of cooperation bigger’.

 Chinese and US negotiators agreed to establish a “trade consultation mechanism” during two days of “constructive” talks in Geneva aimed at tamping down a tariff war, China’s Vice-Premier He Lifeng told reporters.

The two sides “have taken important step to resolve differences through equal dialogue and consultation”, plan to issue a joint statement on Monday, and “conduct further consultations on issues of mutual concern”, state news agency Xinhua reported, citing He.

He pledged that China is ready to work with the US to manage differences, expand areas of cooperation, and make the “pie of cooperation bigger”, Xinhua added. State broadcaster CCTV said the two sides made “substantial progress” and called the talks “candid, in-depth and constructive”.

He also warned that Beijing “will not be afraid” and “fight to the end” if US insists the trade war, according to Reuters.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, who took part in the talks with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, He and two Chinese vice-ministers, described the conclusion as “a deal we struck with our Chinese partners”.....
