Poland May Seek to Seize Nord Stream 2 Assets

WARSAW, April 28. /TASS/. The Polish government intends to seize Gazprom's assets in Europe as compensation that the PGNiG energy group was awarded the Stockholm Arbitration Court, which examined Poland's complaint about prices for Russian gas supplied to the country, Deputy Minister of State Assets Janusz Kowalski said in an interview with Wprost weekly.

According to him, several years ago Ukraine's Naftogaz did this. According to him, when faced with the question of how to recover from Gazprom over $1.5 bln, which was awarded to the Polish side through the Arbitration Court in Stockholm in favor of PGNiG, the best option is a tough seizure. Kowalski emphasized, all the key projects implemented in Europe by Gazprom and its subsidiaries can ultimately serve to effectively pay off debts to Poland. In his opinion, PGNiG will choose the most effective way to achieve compensation.

At the end of March, PGNiG announced it had won arbitration against Gazprom on gas prices. According to the company, the amount of compensation will reach $1.5 bln. Gazprom Export said it was reviewing the court's decision and believes that it is too early to give any estimates of the amounts of possible payments.

According to the final decision, as the Polish company reported, the arbitration court changed the price formula for the purchase of gas supplied by Gazprom under the Yamal contract, making it closer to the market.
