Some Results Of Sotheby's May 18 Impressionist and Modern Auction

This was online only and as The Art Newspaper put it recently:
Auctions are like dating: you can do it online, but sparks only fly in the flesh
Never fear though, the auction houses are some of the world's best marketers and they will be back in the "Live" business within a couple weeks.

A couple of pics by Dufy were also disappointments for their owners but the other three on offer held their own while three by GUSTAVE LOISEAU caught some bids:

The minor works of major names seemed popular as well, Degas and Picasso and the gang.
A Pissarro went for double the low estimate while a couple by Munch were hammered down for under the low estimate.

All in all, pretty pictures, no fireworks.
