India, which is among the fastest growing economies globally, is currently the fifth largest emitter of carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas.
According to the government's own data, annual emissions of carbon dioxide would rise from 1 billion tonnes at present to 5.5 billion tons per year by 2031, meaning India would overtake Japan and Russia to become the world's third largest carbon dioxide emitter after the United States and China by 2030.From The Nation (Thailand)
