Syria Apologizes for Shooting down Plane, Turkey Apologizes for Countinuing to Fly F-4's

When I first heard the news I said to myself "F-4? It must be an F-14".
I mean the plane entered service in 1960. It was the "air superiority" in Viet Nam.*
Anyhoo, from Reuters:
Syria shot down a Turkish warplane over the Mediterranean on Friday, risking a new crisis between Middle Eastern neighbours already at bitter odds over a 16-month-old revolt against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
