China sentenced China Evergrande Group’s founder Hui Ka Yan to life imprisonment and fined the group and an affiliate a total of 15.82 billion yuan ($2.4 billion), cementing the downfall of the property tycoon who exemplified the country’s real estate boom and bust.
Hui was sentenced by a court in Shenzhen after being accused of a litany of crimes including illegally absorbing public deposits and fundraising fraud, according to the official Xinhua News Agency on Thursday.
