"Arms Billionaire Strnad Overtakes Kellnerova as Richest Czech"

He looks like a central European arms merchant.
(I say central Europe because I don't know what Czechia is considered. Looking at our trusty atlas, Prague is further west than Vienna, so who knows)

Michal Strnad, whose arms company started out selling decommissioned Soviet tanks and military gear, has overtaken Renata Kellnerova as the richest person in the Czech Republic.

The 32-year-old tycoon’s net worth is $17.1 billion after his wealth surged $7.9 billion this year, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, making him also the richest person in Eastern Europe outside Russia. Kellnerova has a fortune of $16.8 billion.

Strnad’s closely held Czechoslovak Group, known as CSG, is one of the biggest European producers of artillery shells and combat vehicles and has seen its value surge as the continent pushes to re-arm itself. US demands that NATO members should take more responsibility for their own security and the Ukraine crisis are also increasing the market in Europe for military hardware.

France’s Dassault Aviation SA and Germany’s Rheinmetall AG are also some of the big beneficiaries. CSG has tripled in value in the past two years, according to Bloomberg’s wealth index.

The firm grew out of a business founded by Strnad’s father Jaroslav, who bought old Soviet tanks and other military gear with plans to sell them as scrap metal. But he found demand for both spare parts and refurbished equipment in places like Africa, while also benefiting from political ties at home.

Now, the company employs about 14,000 people in Europe, the US and India. Last year it bought Kinetic Group, owner of the storied Remington brand, and one of the largest US makers of small-caliber ammunition used by hunters and sport shooters....
