Oracle has delayed some of its data center projects set for OpenAI workloads by as much as a year.
The company made the move to delay projects from 2027 to 2028, Bloomberg reports, mostly due to labor and material shortages.
OpenAI has signed a record $300 billion contract with Oracle for cloud services over five years, with the contract starting in 2027.
Oracle is also a backing Stargate, the OpenAI joint venture which currently has one operational data center in Texas. The Abilene facility was built by Crusoe (which is expanding the site), and operated by Oracle for OpenAI.
Other Stargate projects involving Oracle include Vantage's Stargate Wisconsin site, Related Digital’s 1GW Michigan data center, and the UAE-US AI Campus. Those Stargate data centers will be part of the larger cloud contract when it comes into force....
